Mazda NZ shows off new CX-9

August 1, 2016

Mazda New Zealand recently gave Kiwi foodies to drool over by showing the all-new CX-9 SUV at The Food Show in Auckland during the weekend.

While we would have been happy to get an early look at the sexy CX-9 anyway, the idea of free food on offer at the show guaranteed we would head along…

At the event the Mazda announced that the CX-9 would be coming into New Zealand in two spec levels – GSX and Limited, with the GSX being available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive forms, while the top-spec Limited would be AWD only.

Both GSX and Limited models with come standard with seven seats, leather trim and Mazda’s brand-new turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 170kW of power and 420Nm of torque.

“The big focus for the development of this engine was about real world efficiencies,” said Glenn Harris, Mazda New Zealand General Manager of Vehicle Sales and Marketing.

There is no diesel version of the CX-9, with Harris saying “We believe we’ve got diesel-like performance from this car, but without all the extra add-ons that come with diesel. The Mazda performance is there, but so is the efficiency. The average fuel economy figure is 8.4L/100km and that is the real-world efficiency on this car.”

The Mazda CX-9 will launch locally at the start of October.
