For no better reason other than we stumbled across it on YouTube late last night and had to tear our eyes from the screen to go to bed, today we bring you the complete 720p HD version of the classic Steve McQueen vanity project; Le Mans!
Possibly the ultimate vanity project, Le Mans is one hours and 48 minutes of fantastic car and racing footage, very little dialogue and dangerously high levels of artistic pretension. While it treads perilously close to disappearing up its own exhaust for most of its running time, it still manages to be one of the greatest motor racing movies of all time.
As an interesting side note, the racing footage for the film was recorded at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans that took place in June of that year, meaning that the race footage is 45 years old next month…
As an added bonus, we have also included a teaser for what looks to be an absolutely brilliant documentary on Steve McQueen and the legendary race – “The Man and Le Mans” – that is due out sometime this year. What? You weren’t planning on doing any work today, were you?
