After lots of teasing Renault has finally released pictures, video-gamey style video and specifications of its spectacular Renault Sport R.S 01 that will make up a large part of the French manufacturer’s motorsport plans in the near future, including being the basis of its own one-make racing series. Built on a Dallara carbon monocoque chassis and packing a longitudinally mid-mounted Nismo 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6, the R.S. 01 promises to be properly quick, with Renault claiming more than 500hp (370kW) and more than 600Nm from the Nissan powerplant. The R.S. 01 will weigh less than 1100kg. With data acquisition via a Cosworth ICD Pro, the rear-wheel-drive R.S. 01 features a 7-speed sequential transmission, limited slip diff, a ZF Race Engineering clutch, double wishbone/pushrod suspension with Ohlins dampers and 18-inch wheels shod with Michelin tyres. Renault Sport R.S. 01 will compete in the Renault Sport Trophy championship, a new one-make series created for it. The Trophy will be part of the World Series by Renault from 2015 and, according to Renault, will be a new opportunity for “Pro-Am” teams, and a gateway to the GT, DTM, ELMS and WEC championship.
