Car-toon!

February 2, 2015

Okay, as far as we are concerned, the pinnacle of technology has now been reached – it seems mankind has finally arrived at the point where it is technically possible to make real life cartoon cars.

Don’t believe me? Then just check out the vids above and below!

That is the Surf Seeker, a mind-bending cartoonish VW Kombi built by a bloke (we would like to think of him as an utter genius) called Ron Berry. Berry built the Surf Seeker from scratch, using the front suspension from a genuine Type II VW and building the custom body from steel (no light way out with fibreglass here!). In the back it packs a pretty serious 2,175cc air-cooled flat four with a supercharger strapped onto to it to produce around 150kW.

The Shorebreak in the second video is a fantastic hand-built (from fibreglass and wood) Woody that is based on ’83 Mustang suspension and packs a 5.0-litre V8.

Oversteer has now found its perfect car (remembering that we essentially have the maturity levels of a 12-year-old boy). If only we could afford to pay Ron to build us one…
