HSV today released details of the latest bout of supercharged silliness that has gripped them, possessing them to build and released the GTS Maloo – a 430kW/740Nm ute.
Yes, that is now a thing, thanks to the frenzied, clearly disturbed minds at HSV in Australia jamming the 6.2-litre supercharged LSA V8 into the company’s already-extreme version of the venerable Holden load-hauler.
In a press release from HSV today, Managing Director Tim Jackson said, “We have been working on this project for a couple of years now. There are a number of unique elements required to integrate the LSA into the Maloo platform, and significant time in getting all the safety and performance technologies to operate effectively.”
“Every time we launch a vehicle is an exciting time, but we believe the GTS Maloo is something special and sets a new benchmark in the performance market” Jackson said.
The release also detailed other “enhancements” made to the GTS version of the Maloo, including he rather sensible addition of HSV’s premium braking package that includes lightweight AP radical forged 6-piston brake calipers with 390mm (front) and 372mm (rear) 2-piece rotors.
The GTS Maloo will be fitted with Torque Vectoring, which is believed to be a first for a ute. But then, given no other utes pack such insane power, that probably shouldn’t be a surprise.
Available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed auto, the GTS Maloo is expected to be available in NEw Zealand in December. But you had better be quick to get yourself a shiny new burnout machine for Christmas – only 10 examples are coming to local shores…
