Hankook – one of the fastest growing tyre brands in the world both on the road and on the track – has today confirmed that the BNT V8 SuperTourers will be the principal category in a brand new series, the Hankook Super Series.
The BNT V8 SuperTourer field runs exclusively on Hankook racing rubber and is just one of a number of high profile championships – including the DTM international touring car series – that uses Hankook tyres.
Hankook will use the new Super Series to showcase its road and track products as it continues to develop its market share in Australasia. The series will include all BNT V8 SuperTourer rounds which in turn include key support categories like the Cogent V8 Challenge Cup for TL specification V8 cars, the Hankook-shod Suzuki Swift series and the UDC NZ V8 Utes. With these and a choice of guest classes, there’s no shortage of support for the new venture.
“Hankook is very excited to be a part of the premier motorsport categories in New Zealand. We look forward to working with all the categories in the Hankook Super Series in the future to see how Hankook can benefit them,” said Hankook spokesman William Ng.
“The V8 SuperTourers have been using Hankook tyres since their inception and the feedback has been fantastic,” he added. “This is partly due to the fact that we’ve used technology taken straight out of the German DTM championship and injected it into the tyres for the V8 SuperTourers.”
The Korean brand already has significant involvement at other levels of motorsport in New Zealand – providing tyres exclusively for the Motul Honda Cup for the past three years and for Central Muscle Cars in 2013, in addition to the SuperTourers and Suzukis. Other new classes being formed for the New Zealand Racing Driver’s League events are also expected to run on the tyres and BNT V8 SuperTourers CEO Ray Noonan hopes all of the club classes using the tyres exclusively will make occasional appearances in the Hankook Super Series.
“BNT V8 SuperTourers will be the top class in the series but we also want to provide the opportunity for guest classes to run with us on a regular basis. Honda Cup and Central Muscle Cars are both great examples of categories that have their own fan base as well as being Hankook-supported categories and we want the series to have wide appeal.
“It’s genuinely great news for motorsport in New Zealand that a brand of this size and reputation is putting its weight behind the BNT V8 SuperTourers and the categories that are part of our race meetings. We can only go from strength to strength.”
