Auf Wiedersehen Schweinefleischtorte?

April 28, 2014

It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it in German, but Mini New Zealand is planning a remake of a famous scene from one of New Zealand’s most loved movies – the Lake Hawea chase scene from ‘Goodbye Pork Pie’

The scene will be re-cast with the winner from an online competition and a new Mini hatch replacing the yellow 1978 Mini 1000. There is no word on what will be replacing the HQ Holdens as police cars though…

BMW Group New Zealand Managing Director, Nina Englert, says “What better way to celebrate the launch of the all new Mini Hatch here in New Zealand, than to recreate a scene from the original classic Goodbye Pork Pie.”

“Mini is excited to embrace New Zealand’s love affair with Goodbye Pork Pie by recreating the iconic Lake Hawea chase scene with an all-star line-up. The new Mini Hatch is set to enjoy a starring role, we now need one brave kiwi to join us on our journey.”

To that end Mini has set up a dedicated website to recruit members for a new “Blondini Gang” via a series of challenges and one lucky person will get to star in the scene, winning a  spot in the Mini’s passenger seat as it burns around Lake Hawea with the ‘cops’ in hot pursuit.  As an additional bonus, they will get to drive the new Mini for a month. Although Mini does say it will ask the winner to return the car whole and not to sell off the panels and parts.

Recruitment for the starring role and associated competition challenges is now open at www.goodbyeporkpie2014.co.nz with entries closing 5 May 2014.
