When Jaguar announced it was going to build the final six lightweight E-Types it started building in the 1960s and then, well, forgot to finish the run, we here at OVERSTEER were interested, but not that excited.
That was until we saw the finished product.
Then we realised it wasn’t a product, it was a living, breathing (cars breath!) automotive work of art. Now we are excited.
If you aren’t excited by the idea of Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operation’s department using up the final six chassis numbers allocated to the build, then take a look at the pics below or the video above. This thing is sex on wheels.
The car in the video and pics is the prototype – Car Zero – that has been on display at Pebble Beach and doesn’t bear one of the final six chassis numbers.
According to Jaguar’s press release the “new” lightweight E-type’s aluminium body saves some 113kg compared to the original car, including the weight of the built-in roll cage.
The lightweight E-Type is powered by a 3,868cc straight-six engine with dry-sump lubrication, three 45DCO3 Weber carburettors and an aluminium block instead of the original car’s cast iron block (inherited from the legendary D-type).
The Webers were homologated by Jaguar during the original run, but Lucas mechanical fuel injection remains an option for those without enough anxiety in their lives. Whether potential owners choose to do things the hard way (Webers) or the harder way (Lucas fuel injection), the lightweight E-Type will have more than 224kW and 380Nm…
