Ford of India has landed itself in some hot water following a series of leaked potential print ads touting the impressive cargo-carrying capacity of its Figo hatchback.
The three print ads feature bound and gagged people stuffed into the boot of the Figo with a tag line that says “Leave your troubles behind”. The first version shows a happy Silvio Berlusconi with three buxom young ladies tied up in the back, while the second shows Paris Hilton kidnapping the Kardashian sisters.
The third is actually funny, but still in pretty poor taste, and features a grinning Michael Schumacher with Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso bound and gagged. And, let’s face it, we’ve all wanted to do that…
Even if you don’t consider the ads to be in poor taste, the timing certainly is – Indian parliament recently passed new anti-rape legislation to combat the country’s horrific statistics for the crime that sees a woman raped every 20 minutes.
Ford has issued a statement saying it “deeply regrets” the ads and that they “never should have happened”. No kidding…
