Porsche recently revealed that it has named it’s forthcoming baby brother to the Cayenne SUV after Arthur Daley’s sidekick.
Well, maybe not, because it has actually called it Macan – the Indonesian word for “tiger” – rather than the possibly cooler McCann – a cockney bodyguard’s surname…
“The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche”, said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG. “The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”
Regardless of whatever that actually means, the Macan – which will debut in production form in 2013 – will be the fifth model in the Porsche line up and will see the expansion of Porsche’s Leipzig facility to a fully-fledged production plant including a body assembly line and paint shop.
The expansion, which will cost 500 million euro, will be one of the biggest building projects in Porsche’s corporate history and will create more than 1,000 new jobs.
I could be so good for you? Porsche is obviously hoping the Macan will be…
