Ford to GM: You keep talkin’ like a bitch…

April 1, 2014

… I’m gonna slap you like a bitch.

It’s from the Quentin Tarantino movie Reservoir Dogs and it is how Mr. Blonde gets Nice Guy Eddie to shut up.

In a similar vein, Ford has delivered one of the better corporate bitch-slaps of recent time Ford with a perfectly timed and brilliantly executed response to an utterly pretentious and fatuous General Motors TV ad.

The GM ad for the new Cadillac ELR Plug-in Hybrid (think an expensive Holden Volt with new clothes) features previously-awesome actor Neal McDonough as a pretentious rich bloke standing by his pool askingĀ “Why do we work so hard? For what? For this? For stuff?” before going on to state that America is so much better than the rest of the world because Americans work harder.

Aside from being blatant chest-beating it pretty much alienates any of the many Americans who work two, three or even more jobs just to barely survive. but that’s alright, they won’t be buying Cadillacs anyway…

Ford, however, have twigged on to the fact that anyone who isn’t a millionaire would find this ad offensive (or brilliant satire, if it starred Stephen Colbert…) and, in response, have created an absolutely fantastic ad for its new C-Max Plug-in Hybrid that uses the same structure to brilliantly take the piss out of the Caddy ad, promote the C-Max AND push the value of sustainability and locally-grown food!

The ad is clever, thoughtful and very, very funny. Nice one Ford!
