Don’t know if any of you caught this in the weekend’s Bathurst coverage, but it bore a striking resemblance to the days when Aussie touring cars were actually good to watch…
Seeing Jim Richards belt a Volvo around reminded me of the days when the 2-litre cars mixed it with the V8s and Dick Johnson would give an interview from in the car under race conditions and be telling jokes across the top of the mountain, pausing occasionally to catch the car and quip “oh… that was interesting…” as the rear went light…
Anyway; Volvo back in Aussie touring cars. We reckon that is going to be pretty cool. While AMG and Nissan haven’t exactly made a huge splash, remember that the Volvo effort is backed by the factory and has input from the Swedish manufacturer’s racing and performance arm, Polestar. Which has produced some pretty serious cars…
What do you think of Volvo’s return and the V8 Supercar series taking on-board of manufacturer’s other than Ford and Holden?
